What is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?
Last updated
Short answer
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of building the authoritative, citation-ready presence that makes large language models — ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and the like — recommend your business inside direct conversations, when a user asks the AI to help, explain, create or recommend. GEO builds on top of AEO: your machine-readable AEO files (llms.txt, structured schema, answer and FAQ pages) go in first, then GEO earns the authority on top of them through continually published, citation-ready content.
Why it matters
GEO is what gets you recommended inside a direct conversation with an assistant, where the model is drawing on perceived authority rather than a retrieved page.
In practice
GEO sits on top of AEO. The machine-readable files come first, because an engine cannot treat you as authoritative on a subject if it cannot reliably establish who you are.
The work itself is continuous publication of citation-ready material and the corroboration that builds around it, rather than a one-time technical install.
MyFast.ai runs GEO as a separate done-for-you service at geo.myfast.ai; this site handles the AEO measurement and files it depends on.
